CURRENT DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

The test rocket “Black Magic” is being upgraded to “Black Magic II” to support testing of the 10,000 Newton/sec. class 98mm diameter hybrid motor under development. The airframe is being extended to approximately 10’ and canards are being added to the nose cone to maintain static stability, however the canards are movable through four servo motors to allow implementation of an Attitude Control System. Included as a part of this development is a “Universal Flight Controller” to support these advanced functions and flights beyond 100,000 ft.

Future development efforts will be directed towards larger hybrid motors (up to 7.5” in diameter) supporting an oxidizer injector valve for dynamic thrust control. A new airframe will be built to support flight testing of the motor, and then both airframes will be adapted to a two stage configuration. A 3-4 motor cluster booster is also being contemplated.
